IntroductionThe Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the State's legal business, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials, and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters. As Maryland's 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown leads the Office with a critical focus on equity, justice, and fairness.

Main Purpose of JobThe Office of the Attorney General is seeking applicants for a Mediator to mediate at the Salisbury Office of the Mediation Unit in the Consumer Protection Division. The successful applicant will be responsible for engaging in hands-on negotiation of complex consumer complaints; and assisting in the Mediation Unit’s management of its daily caseload.
This position provides an opportunity to help people resolve problems that they encounter in purchasing goods or services. to protect Maryland’s most vulnerable residents from deceptive practices and to help people who have been victimized by those practices.
Minimum QualificationsEducation: The ideal candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited four-year college university.
Experience: Three years of experience in administrative or social work; (Pertinent volunteer and/or part-time experience is acceptable). S trong interpersonal, writing, and organizational skills required.
Notes
- Candidates may substitute up to two years of education for up to two years of experience. (Pertinent volunteer and/or part-time experience is acceptable).
- Candidates may substitute additional experience in mediation or legal work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
- Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.
Desired Or Preferred QualificationsExperience mediating and handling consumer protection issues.
