OOC: Second Draft changes:
- De-emphasized Dr G throughout to clarify that the commendation is for the region(s) not the founder. Much greater emphasis on the region(s)
- Explained more clearly in the body of the resolution why Philosophers is the target (vs P115) and made a stronger case as to how the regions are two parts of the whole, and why the badge should be on the active region instead of the closed region
- Clarified the top section as exposition by changing the introductory word to 'establishing' hopefully this creates a delineation between the exposition and the regional history piece (that which was making the thing seem a bit disordered)
- Removed the link to the now defunct Philosophy101
- Greater explanation as to why P115's early precedents set were influential and critical to the NS we know today
- Cleaned up that potentially illegal wording around the establishment of Dr george as a nation
- Included P115's inspiration of debate halls and educational components in other early regional forums
- Added P115 being featured in 2009
- Greater emphasis on the joint leadership in the region during Dr G's later absence and P115's example of democratic, cooperative, leadership over decades
I may jump in and make a few grammatical / punctuation edits, but won't make any major changes without a third draft. Still looking for and appreciative of any feedback on improving. Thanks to those who commented so far. It has allowed me to produce what I feel is an improved and clearer draft.
This esteemed Security Council:
Establishing that if the Governor role had existed when Philosophy 115 (colloquially P115) became founderless and vulnerable to attack in 2021, the development and exodus of residents to the annexed territory Philosophers, and the closure of the borders of P115, would not have been necessary.
Accepting, in that spirit, and for the purposes of this commendation, that Philosophers is a natural progression and contiguous extension of Philosophy 115, born only of necessity, occupying the same territory in this realm, sharing a common history, analogous culture and traditions, and hosting all P115’s former nations. As such, this commendation of Philosophers as living, breathing successor region also represents a symbolic commendation of P115, the historic cradle of the region's culture and accomplishments.
Recalling the hazy, formative days of this multiverse, when a pastoral minister, educator, and philosopher brought their quest for knowledge and their love of teaching to this realm. Creating an eponymous nation, Dr george, founded a region unique in the realm, where others could “approach life rationally without unfounded assumptions”. This was Philosophy 115, a welcoming and democratic home for free thought and expression that quickly became residence to over 200 nations.
Affirming that P115 became the vanguard for intellectualism in the early multiverse, standing as campus to higher thought and education. P115 maintained an open-to-all policy when hosting myriad, robust debates and promoting the causes of logic and reason. These events were widely attended by the nations of other regions, formalizing P115's position as welcoming, cultural hub, and a place to flex intellectual muscle. They also inspired other regions to incorporate a formal debate and educational apparatus into their regional forums. Through these interactions, P115 forged some of the earliest and longest lasting inter-regional friendships in the realm. These relationships would eventually inspire and evolve into the embassy infrastructure we now take for granted. P115's contributions to this familial atmosphere and alignment with like-minded regions including Forest, Anarchy, 10000 Islands, and Hell are at the very foundation of the collegial society we enjoy today.
Noting that this collegial, regional tone was also expressed through Dr. George’s alternate nation, Bearnation, which served as elected founder and long-standing WA Delegate in the LGBTQ+ region Gay. The unflinching ally relationship between Philosophy 115, Gay, and other early LGBTQ+ regions set an influential precedent at a time when the realm was less tolerant and significantly less diverse. P115's role in championing the causes of inclusivity, understanding, and acceptance through dialogue was a critical catalyst to the society into which we have all evolved. Also reflecting that inclusive spirit, Philosophy115 spawned the adjacent region Philosophy 101, sadly lost to time, as an entrée region to those new to philosophy and eager to learn and participate at beginner levels.
Recognizing the demands on the founder in later years, and the stewardship of nations like Red Star of the West, Sunrise from the Sea, Central Kadigan, Kingdom of Cambria, Telgan, Terra Amore, and others for rallying to support and sustain P115 through a lengthy period of joint leadership. Featured in 2009, P115 continued its evolutionary arc over the next decade as a model of cooperative leadership and democratic values. Dr George took back the helm briefly in 2020, inspiring a renaissance in P115. Regional population swelled to 400 nations. WA membership soared. Joint international events were planned, and P115's future looked bright. Sadly, the founder fell finally inactive, making the exodus to Philosophy a heartbreaking necessity for P115's many nations.
Appreciating those steward nations for securing P115 for posterity, and, for coordinating the seamless passage of all natives to Philosophers, where safe, open borders could be maintained.
Acknowledging Philosophers for preserving and celebrating P115's culture, and continuing in the purest traditions of P115, to promote critical thinking and expression, debate, and discussion on any number of topics. As in P115, international nations are still welcome to participate in regional discussions, and these dialogues are now summarized and shared with the world via newsletter. Further evolution has led to a new regional map created by MountAye. Embassy partnerships established by P115 over a decade-and-a-half ago remain an intrinsic part of Philosophers continuing mission.
Celebrating the approaching 20th anniversary of Philosophy 115, which now stands as secure monument to history, and lauding the living continuation of all that was P115 in Philosophers - an equable place in the multiverse where any nation may still take a moment to ponder existence and wax philosophical.
Hereby commends Philosophers
